Discover Twenty-Nine New Game Cards from Magic: The Gathering's TMNT Expansion (Featuring a Commander-Style Precon Deck!)
The world's favorite pizza-loving superheroes are coming to Magic: The Gathering. The well-known trading card game's company, Wizards of the Coast, unveiled a much-awaited Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion at a special event hosted at NYCC. Could this be a radical new set or yet another Universes Beyond cash grab? We'll let you be the judge.
Take a look below at everything revealed from the Magic x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, including some useful background. All items mentioned below releases on March 6, 2026, with one exception — a special Pizza Bundle arrives a few weeks later on March 27th.
MTG x TMNT: Main Set Reveals
Before we get into the many special decks and collections available, we’ll examine at the full lineup from the main Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion that were revealed by the developers. Play boosters for the expansion are set at $6.99 each, while Collector Boosters should run $37.99 per pack.
Let's unpack a couple of shell-shocking details. To begin, there's a new mechanic named Sneak Attack, inspired by the already established Ninjutsu ability, in which players can cheat powerful creatures onto the battlefield whenever an attacker isn’t blocked. The key change in this case is that this new ability can affect spells that aren’t creatures as well. The designers also took the opportunity to refine the mechanic a little (Sneak counts as playing a spell, as opposed to the older mechanic). The original ability is staying, but chances are we'll see Sneak in future sets from now on.
“If we ever go back to Kamigawa, it’s possible we’d use Ninjutsu because that plane is it originated and it is iconic of that world,” a senior designer explained. “But on other planes, because the rules are cleaner and Sneak is what's going to be Standard-legal, it's more likely that we'd use Sneak.”
Another version of the leader Turtle, Sewer Samurai, is among four cards with unique artwork created specifically for the expansion by TMNT original artist the co-creator.
Additionally, should you be surprised by the rules text on Turtles Forever card, which lets you play cards that aren't in your main deck, many players were. But according to Wizards, it’s now a official card in all formats of Magic.
In any case, below are the extremely bizarre full-art lands from this set:
As per the company’s current policy, all these cards are fully legal in Magic’s Standard format. The designers state they were careful to ensure the new cards and mechanics meshed well with other Standard sets like Edge of Eternities.
“I led the development for 15 months and we knew it would be Standard-legal and what other sets were going to be alongside it in standard,” the designer commented. “Our goal was to ensure that there's synergy with certain expansions including Edge of Eternities.”
As an instance, each of TMNT and Edge of Eternities feature a Izzet strategy built around artifacts.
“They mesh together to provide the components for a enjoyable Standard-legal deck,” the designer says.
Preconstructed Commander: Turtle Power!
After declining to design any pre-constructed Commander decks for Spider-Man and the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender collaborations, the company is changing direction with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s only a single precon, but it does come with six different legendary creatures who could work as your Commander based on how you combine them (five of the cards have a special Partner mechanic named “Character Select” that allows starting with two of them in the command area instead of only one). Take a look below:
The Turtle Power deck is priced at $69.99, though that could easily go up due to demand. Sources indicated that it includes 43 brand-new cards in total, which means an extra 37 Turtle-themed game cards besides the six legendary creatures pictured earlier. (Calculating roughly, that also means about 20 reprinted cards if we assume the deck includes 37 land cards.)
What will the TMNT version of the iconic Sol Ring appear? Fans must wait and find out.
Standard Bundle (Standard Edition)
As per usual, Wizards is offering a collection. This one costs $69.99 and includes the listed items:
- 9 Play Boosters
- 15 Traditional foil basic lands
- 15 Non-foil basic lands
- Two helper cards
- 1 Foil promotional card
- One Large life tracker
- One storage box
Pizza-Themed Bundle
This is a unique concept for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, mostly in that it comes in what looks like a pizza delivery box. Every pizza-themed bundle is priced at $99.99 and includes the following:
- Nine Play Boosters
- 1 Collector Booster
- Twenty-five Regular pizza-themed lands
- Five Traditional foil pizza-themed lands
- 2 Traditional foil pizza bundle promo cards
- Two helper cards
- One Oversized spindown life counter
- One storage box
For those curious what a “pizza bundle promo” means, it’s essentially a reprinted older card with all-new TMNT art. The team showed an example for the well-known Magic card Dark Ritual depicting Splinter adding toppings on a pizza slice. In total, there are six different pizza promos in total.
This special bundle releases a couple of weeks later than the main set on March 27, 2026.
Draft Bundle
This special bundle is made for a four-person draft and is priced at $119.99. That will get you:
- Twelve Play Boosters (ideal for a group of four to play draft)
- One Collector Booster (aka, the reward for winning)
- 90 Regular land cards (to build your deck)
- Ten Regular double-sided tokens
- One drafting guide (a single-page instruction sheet to drafting the set)
Cooperative Play Set
Lastly, Wizards are doing something new with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as in line with its continued initiative to create Magic products specifically for new players. Here, the cooperative set is a special set of prebuilt decks that let you and a friend join forces to face a “Boss” deck that pilots itself.
The general idea is that each Boss card grants unique powers to the creatures contained in the Boss deck. Each Boss automatically casts one other card per turn, and players begin fighting {one Boss|
