A teenage youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent received a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was not taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken remains generated social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the toilet anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from school staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang the family's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they never got that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his questioning he was released while investigations continued."

The official determined: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any organization led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
